Angelenos need real homes. Tourists do not. That is what LA’s hotels are for (and we have about 1,000 hotels totaling around a million rooms).
There is a plot to convert a bungalow court into tiny homes for short-term rentals. This would displace TEN households. TEN. Unsurprisingly, this is in Hugo Soto-Martinez’s district.
There is already an ongoing problem with investors taking badly needed homes off the rental market and turning them into hotels. Every time it happens, it squeezes an already tough rental market even more. The city mostly ignores it. This proposed plan would exploit a loophole in the Small Lot Subdivision Ordinance.
But we can speak up. We can tell the city HELL NO. Here’s a sample email (edit it as you see fit; I personally am fighting the urge to use some extremely fiery language).
If you’re free at 10am tomorrow, you can also tune in to a Zoom meeting and give public comment verbally. Here’s the link. The Meeting ID is 817 1300 2108 and the passcode is 013182.
