Empty for 30+ Years in Pacoima?!
Picture, if you will, a two-story house in Pacoima on a nice big corner lot between two schools.
ZIMAS says it’s a duplex. It could be, although I’m pretty sure “Building 2”, added three years after “Building 1” in 1948, is likely to be the garage. ZIMAS also claims the house was used for housing within the past five years, but that seems VERY unlikely, given how many people corroborated the house’s exceptionally lengthy vacancy.
The Redditor who alerted the public to this house states, in part, “Located behind Maclay Middle School on Borden & Gain. I attended Maclay in the early 90s, and I can remember it being abandoned back then. Easily approaching almost 40yrs of abandonment.” Another Redditor commented on being able to hear bees nesting inside the house.
Code enforcement complaints about the house’s condition and possible abandonment (in 2004, 2016, and 2017) were simply closed.
It isn’t clear when the building last changed hands. ZIMAS says 2016. Zillow (which is not the most reliable source) says 2006.
There is, or rather was, a religious nonprofit based at the house’s address - the Arabic Evangelical Pentecostal Church. It was founded in 2006, but suspended by the Secretary of State in 2009 and the Franchise Tax Board in 2011, and seems to no longer be active.
Searches turn up names of possible occupants, but I doubt any of them have been recent. When multiple sources familiar with a specific address say it’s empty and has been for years, they’re probably telling the truth.
