Santa Monica’s City Attorney recently won judgments against two landlords who failed to pay required temporary relocation fees to three displaced households.
Yep! I was a partial owner of a small business in Santa Monica many years ago and while it was easier to deal with than LA (especially with permits), the city was really nitpicky about some things (like demanding $500 a month to pick up one very small bag of trash...we opted out of trash pickup and had a rule that everyone had to take their own trash with them).
I suspect part of the problem is having an LA City Attorney who has managed the rare feat of being both flagrantly corrupt and deeply incompetent. Praying Hydee doesn’t get re-elected!
Meanwhile I recently published a piece on how the city of SM is absolutely abusing it’s renting commercial tenants at Bergamot Station lol
Oh dear.
I never said SM was perfect (and it isn’t), but it’s still kinder to residential renters than LA. The bar is in Hell.
maybe the diff is between residential and commercial T_T

Angelenos deserve a City Attorney who will do right by them.
