Send These Ellis-Acted Bungalows to Altadena!
The Eaton fire destroyed a wide variety of historic homes in Altadena - including at least one classic bungalow court.
West Adams’ Roberta Court was emptied in an Ellis Act eviction in 2019. After six years of sitting empty, the owners want to build a 23-unit apartment complex. I’d rather the court was never emptied in the first place, but unlike so many new projects, at least the proposed building will include two levels of parking.
There isn’t a demolition permit yet - but what if there was no need for demolition in order to clear the lot?
What if the owner of these 8 lovely Spanish-style bungalows made them available to displaced fire victims via the Historic House Relocation Project instead of going through the waste and mess of tearing them down? That would be 8 households returning home sooner than if new units were built from scratch.
If you are the owner or know them, please fill this out. Every saved home helps someone.
