I’ve been weirdly interested in the history of this building since I was a student at John Liechty years ago and everytime it pops in my head I google it just to see if there’s any new info lol I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who wonders about this place
My brother was living there in 1994. He was jobless and on welfare and very depressed. He was assaulted there trying to help the manager collect back rent from another guest there. My brother passed away that year in his room.
Part of the reason I posted that was to let you know the place was operational in the mid 90s. My brother could receive calls at the desk, so I'd call once a week once I found him. There was a Hispanic manager and he basically "hired" my brother do help him out; no actual pay, but a reduction in his rent, which was helpful. I do not know how much longer the hotel was in business after September of '94 when Duane died.

I’m so sorry that happened to him. How awful.

I thought so. From another reader’s story, it sounds like it was open for a few more years after that.
