I received a text from Father Dylan on Thursday night, alerting me to a fire at a boarded-up house in Westlake (edited to add: I’m told it may have been another type of incident, but firefighters were on the scene).
Citizen footage showed the firemen dealing with something on the roof of the westernmost of the two abandoned, boarded up Craftsman houses. Just went by today and they are both still there, with no evidence of a fire.
Was the fire at 1520 or 1521 W 8th? 1520 is a multi-story apartment building that appears to be empty. 1521 is an old craftsman. As for non-reports, same thing occurs with crime reports. Under-reporting is an easy way for city hall to ignore the ongoing problems in the city.
The Citizen alert said 1520, but it looks like it was 1521 across the street. Citizen isn’t perfect with addresses, especially since reports might be filmed from across the street, next door, down the street, etc. I’m confident it’s 1521, since I was told it was a duplex and not a bigger building.
Also, 1521 had a previous fire in 2021. It’s not uncommon for multiple fires to take place at one address until it finally has to be knocked down.

Strange. If LAFD had posted an alert, we could clarify what the situation was. But they didn’t.
Wouldn’t it be nice if the houses were moved?
